Dear Mr Macnee,
I wish you all the very best on your birthday tomorrow! It is still a pleasure to look at that time on German television series "With (the) Umbrella, Charm and Melon (Bowler)" (engl. "The Avengers" - in color), with Diana Rigg, currently being repeated on ARTE, again. As a teenager, I found the Engish humor sometimes a little bit "too black" - now I regret that the act in parts obvious was mitigated, because the "real" life are often equally more than cruel and hard! Good health and many greetings from good old Germany to you and your colleague Diana Rigg! Thank you for many enjoyable and entertaining hours! |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATRICK!Wishing you good health, abundant love and much laughter! |

Lebt wohl. |

Hello Mr. Macnee,
I wish you first a happy new year , full with happiness, love and good health.
I would like to say - thank very much for bringing so much fun and great moments in my life with your work as an actor. Next to "The Avergers" I love your parts in Columbo and James Bond too. But how much I like your other parts, my absolute favourite is: John Steed. You make him living. You filled this character with magic, humor and a lot of charme.
Nobody is as undercover agent sweeter - than you as "Mr. John Steed"
I wish you a wonderful time, all the best for the future and God bless you and your family..

Hello Patrick.
Just saw the New Avengers in HMV on Saturday and bought them to remind me of the happy times when TV was good! Yes they are dated and yes they are corney, but you can't beat good old entrertainment. Always good story lines some heavily influenced by the times but beats all the crap today and the endless special effects which are rammed down our throats to cover the bad story telling or crummy character acting.
Carry on old boy.
An old Fan. |

Such a shame the others didn't survive intact...oh well, BBC archiving has come a long way, thank goodness! They must be kicking themselves. |

I was born in 1962 so I did manage to see the Avengers form the late decade as they were transmitted.
I was transfixed with the series and grew up emulating some facets of gentlemanly behaviour and sartorial elegance! a la Steed.
He was my hero-you can keep all your cowboys with guns and caped superheroes. I wanted to be Steed-quintessentially English(or to be PC ? British).
I always tried to see all Mr. Macnees work on screen and always relished his performances.Thank you for your work and life-still reading 'Blind in one ear'- best wishes and good health.

The Avengers was the best cult TV series back in the 1960s, especially The New Avengers in the mid 1970s. I have been a huge fan of The Avengers since 15 years ago. I only started watching them on RTE, BBC and Channel 4, they were stunning. I'm glad that The Avengers is released on DVD with Series 2 and Surviving Episodes from Series 1 and those 3 episodes are: Hot Snow, Girl on the Trapeze and The Frighteners. I remembered yourself, Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg appear in 3 James Bond movies: you in A View to a Kill, Honor in Goldfinger and Diana in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. James Bond and John Steed have the same bond of a licence to kill towards the villains. It was fantastic stuff. When the next 4 Series of The Avengers come out next time, I guarantee that i will have a collection of The Avengers all for myself.
I have only got Series 2 since Christmas Day that I ordered for the festive season. I wanna wish you and all the Avengers fans a Happy New Year. |

Dear Mr. Macnee, I recently read and enjoyed both of your books. I can honestly say that you had a very interesting childhood to say the least and I want to thank you for not ever giving up your dream of becoming an actor. As a result of your perseverance and determination, you have entertained us through the years. Of course the first time I ever watched you was in The Avengers. I still watch it because not only is it a great show, but it plain makes me happy. I've made it a point to watch as many of your roles as possible, no matter what. Even if a production isn't that great, I always find you to be the bright spot which keeps me watching. That's an admirable quality for one to possess which explains why you are one of my all time favorite actors. You're also very generous in your performances. I know this because the other actors seem so relaxed with you. I like that. Anyway, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. |
