Love the site. John Steed was always my hero while growing up. My hope is that my son, when I have one, will find a similarly noble and gallant hero; unfortunately, I doubt that this will be possible--there is only one Steed! Luckily, thanks to Patrick Macnee, my hero is immortal. So, I say—Thank you Patrick Macnee for a life-long hero. Now, if I could only find my Emma Peel… Sincerely, Chris Tkach |

Thank you, Dear Mr McNee, for having, by the joy your art has given me, enhanced my life. A fun memory for me recalls an early-1980s evening in Singapore when, although by far the most elegantly attired person, man or woman, in the place, you were turned away from dinner at Singapore's Tanglin Club because your trousers and jacket, fashionably, did not exactly match. I've never been able to enter the joint since without being reminded of the way you were 'given the bums rush.' Uppity bloody colonials! <] |

Sir, Thank You! Trust me when I tell you those are the most heart felt two words I have said (written) in a long time. I'm not sure, but I think you may have saved my life. Well, maybe not my life, but you certainly saved me from some serious hurt. I used to think that the routine of humor in the face of danger that is a corner stone of "The Avengers" was funny, but could never happen. That is until a couple of weeks ago. I work with a partner as an armed security officer at one of the worst motels in the city. We had a motorcycle gang out of Texas known as the Sons of Silence come in. After spending most of the day ingesting what smelled like ethanol and probably tasted just as bad, they seemed to take exception with my uniform. Now I have to tell you that just prior to going to work at mid-night that night, I had watched "Death at Bargain Prices" which always makes me laugh. So I was in a pretty good mood. However, watching these four guys coming at us, I'm only five foot two and my partner is even shorter, I would have thought humor would be the last thing to cross my mind. As I said, they took exception to my uniform. The leader of this little band of angels, at the time, looking like he was about nine foot tall and just as wide said (and I'll clean the language up), "Look at this *&%#@ guard. Looks like a f*&^%# mini Texas Ranger". I didn't see the resemblance myself. Must have been the cowboy hat I wear with my uniform. Anyway, I said, "As long as I don't shoot you like a Texas Ranger, you'll be alright". I've never been charged by a raging bull, but I bet it looks a lot like what I saw that night. I know the distance across that lobby had to have shrunk as he came at me saying, "You ain't gonna shoot my ass"! This is the part that, if I saw it on television, I probably wouldn't buy it, but I swear it happened. I didn't reach for my weapon. Never even moved a muscle, but for some reason, the words, "That's not where I'd be aiming," came out. It stopped him dead in his tracks. He blinked a few times. Looked at his three friends and broke out laughing. After a minute or two he said, "That was a good come back". They were still laughing, my partner was looking at me like I was crazy and I walked away as though I knew what I was doing all along. Of course it took about half an hour for my heart to stop pounding in my ears, but they didn't know that. We were treated with dignity and respect by the gang for the rest of their stay. Now you might agree with my mother who claims that I've always been a smart a*& ... ah, I mean, quick wit and that "The Avengers" had nothing to do with it. Well, I'm the one it happened to and I can tell you that I don't usually go to work in that good a mood. So I know exactly where the credit lies. I bet you never thought you'd be rescuing the damsel in distress thirty nine years after the fact. Again, I Thank You. May your life be filled with joy and challenges and loved ones to witness both. Always appreciated the "old boy" (along with Ms. Rigg) on the Avengers. I'm sitting here after a Saturday night date and wondering what it would be like if the two of them came back to the "big screen" as two retired "Mother" agents called out of retirement and teamed with another retired british agent--The Saint--Mr. Roger Moore? The thought brings about fascinating possibilities doesn't it? Look forward to hearing from the care taker of this site. Mark Ringgold, GA |

The John Steed figure has really effected me all my life. My strong attitudes towards right and wrong were girded from my early experiences watching The Avengers. I watched in awe at this well dressed, sofisticated man fighting for good against evil. Even now I try to be impecably dressed as often as possible. Thank You Very Much Glenn |

Dear Patrick I have just bought the Avengers Complete Emma Peel Megaset - its absolutely brilliant! I love the character of Steed (It must be difficult to play such a cool dude and make it look so natural) but it was Emma Peel that made the biggest impression when I was 8 or 9 years old - I was completely in love! Very best wishes for the future Cliff |

Hi!! The avengers is one of my favourite tv series of all-times. It's fun. You're one of my favourite actors. I Know that it isn't your problem but the avengers in dvd haven't got a subtitles in spanish, only english, german and french. It's a pity, because in the 60's the series was a great succes. |

Dear Patrick As an ex naval man you will be reminded of "Pompey"! I was born there in 1947 and lived a useless life with boarding schools and public schools until 1967 when I headed down under for some adventure. Before I left my life was dictated to by two TV shows John Steed and the Avengers and the Forsythe Saga. I was in love with Nyree Dawn Porter and was devastated by her far too early death. After my pathetic schooling I studied Architecture and Design and my natural love of avant garde and contemporary design made me very aware of brilliant concepts and products. My passion for unusual cars such as Jensen Interceptors started at a very early age. Therefore the Avengers had everything I could wish for. Style and cool. However Steed was one thing, that incredible actor Patrick McNee gave me such inspiration to seek the ultimate in achieving success. Thank you Patrick for you are still an inspiration to me. Good health and great happiness. Sincerely Peter March |

I have been an "AVENGERS" fanatic since the early "70's". Currently my collection has about 36 different episodes. John Steed and his partners are truly in a class of their own. While very sporadic, I enjoy catching glimpes of my favorite heroes on TV and film. Hope all of you live on forever.......you will with me. |

hi, u "british'st" of all actors..i'm very lucky! here in luxembourg, we get tv-programs from germany, belgium and france (and of course all satellite-progs), so i've seen the avengers in every possible language..and every time they are re-programmed, i watch them..but i must say, i have a definite preference for the diana rigg-episodes, even (or especially) in b/w..did u know, that during a period (early seventies, i think) the avengers were taken off the air in germany, because of "obvious brutality" giggle* - but never mind, they did the same with porky pig and duffy duck ! so you're in the best of company! greetings from luxembourg |

When was it exatly that Patrick moved to the USA? My guess would be in the 1970's. Would he like to come out and perhaps speak in New Mexico? Or do book signings? He is perhaps the most distinguished character actor of Televison history living today. Dave Albuquerque |

BTW I have a daughter and 'son' with the grandbabies living in southern CA...in Manchester; close to Temecula. I will be visiting them in January 2006...will have to see if you would agree to a phone call. You are my ideal "sharp dressed man". |

Dear Mr. Macnee, In my recent post to your site, I neglected to thank you. I cannot put into words how you helped me to escape the mundaneness of my childhood surroundings in a small farming town in the Midwest with you and Mrs. Peel, or Miss King. If you wondered who that 12 year old kid in the back seat of your Bentley was, that was me. I have seen you in other roles, but I hope you will forgive me if I choose Steed as my favorite. I just ordered your book The Avengers and Me, and will probably be reading your autobiography next. Although it will probably never happen, I would love the opportnity to one day meet you in person and shake your hand. |

I hope that Patrick Macnee himself reads this, and assuming this, I will continue in the second person. I grew up watching The Avengers in the 60's. At first, my mom wouldn't let me watch because she thought the show was too violent. Before long, I had both my parents watching the show every Monday night with me. As John Steed, you were my role model. I just bought your own selection of favourite episodes on DVD and now, am wanting more. I was amazed at how much I remembered. It was enlightening to see the early episodes with Honor Blackman and see how the character of John Steed evolved. It seemed strange to see Steed wearing a hat that wasn't a bowler. It was also good to see the episode where you first acquired the Bentley. I don't know how to properly address you, as I don't know whether you have been knighted or made a peer, and if you haven't received either honour as of yet, it's a shame. Sir, I hope you are well and will be with us for a very long time. Cheers! |

Just thought I'd add that I was watching Ghost Story's today - obviously you bring a touch of class to any programme - but like my dear old late Mum, I have a taste for the supernatural and this programme of yours is great. Can't quite believe you've settled in America though - thought you'd go for somewhere like Kent somewhere totally English!!!!! Anyway, long life (well, even longer life in your case!!!!!!!). Keep well, and love to your family (which must include your dogs!!!!). With love from jolly old London (well South-East London anyway!). We love you Steed! Debbie |

I have always admired you, and the Avengers remind me of when I was a child. Also, as you get older, you remind me so much of my dear old dad (he's 81!). Long may you reign Mr McNee. Also, is it true that you used to live in Bromley in Kent, as my Aunt and Uncle lived in North Street in Bromley and seemed to think that you used to live round the corner (or is my memory deserting me???).
