I just discovered news of your 90th birthday and wanted to add my good wishes to the lot! I've so appreciated your past work and it's always a treat to revisit it (as we can so easily now with those silly silver discs). I also own and have read, several times, "Blind in One Ear", and was pleased to find that Steed got his roguish gentlemanly charm and wit directly from you. Many happy days ahead and much joy in them! Regards. |

Dear Patrick: I am now reading "The Avengers - The Inside Story" and while loving it, wanted to express that your insecurities, doubts or fears to your character of John Steed were unfounded. Steed was (and remains) the pinnacle of English gentleman who can defend himself, and those around him, without the need of firearms, and without spilling that glass of champagne in the process. Cheers to you and yours! John Steed and Patrick Macnee are heroes beyond compare.

How I would have loved to have personally known Patrick. I'm drawn to anything he as appeared in but of course, I'll forever remember him as 'gentleman' John Steed. Thanks Patrick for so many enjoyable hours. I recently found out of his interest in naturism - I'm still trying to conjour-up the image !!!

Dear Mr Macnee..I wanted to write to express the happiness that you have given me over the years..always the perfect gentleman and always associated with with top notch performances. I was lucky to have grown up in the 1960's in Great Britain and The Avengers, with its wonderful cast, producers, scripts and production values, have never been surpassed..there is nothing like it now, and as times change, probably never will be again. Thank you for all the happiness..laughter and suspense and long may you stay healthy and hearty and one of the few remaining "Stars" of the British post war era..an era, the like of which we will never see again. Thank you for everything..Best Wishes Rene Coutts |

This is going to sound strange, the very first television program I watched all the way through (I was 13)was The New Avengers. My favourite character John Steed. 14 years later my second Son came along (had to name the first after his dad, (tradition)) and I (not we) decided he was going to be called Patrick John. If IMDB had been around then he would have been called Daniel John. My Son knows he is named after a fictional character and yesterday (his 21st birthday) he bought ME the New Avengers DVD collection =D John Steed isn't like James Bond. There can be ONLY ONE and you Mr Macnee ARE that one. No one, no matter how fine an actor, could ever portray my childhood hero as you do. Thank you sir. |

Dear Mr. Macnee,
Thank you for providing young Englishmen with the perfect role model. For all the many and varied characters you have portrayed there are common threads of decency, mischief and adventure that come from the man, not the part, without which we would all be infinitely poorer.
I hear that Daniel Craig only has four more 007 movies left... one can only hope that at last your time will come when they've pensioned him off!
A very happy 2012 to you, sir.
Best regards

Dear Mr. Macnee...I just wanted to thank you (and all your leading ladies) for being a big part of my life since I first viewed The Avengers in the mid-60s. Everyone in the cast has given me years of entertainment and fond memories. Emma first got me interested in martial arts and sports cars; a passion of mine to this very day (I'm now 57). Thank you for such an awesome show!

Well, an 80 year old can be forgiven a slight error. (I hope. Of course the "Young man" of that 1951 iconic Christmas movie, was playing "Jacob" not Ebenezer. Bad Memory? Bah Humbug !

You can still find DVD's of the 1951 "Christmas Carol" with Alastair Sim. I played the young Marley with George Cole's young Scrooge. |

May I add my name to those who wish Mr. MACNEE the best of the best. From one 80 year old to another..Cheers! We salute you!
On the chance that Mr. Macnee might indeed read this, a question. Who in hell was Fred's Maid in the 1951 "Scrooge"? No one seems to know her name or history. Perhaps you remember? Two wonderful actors, one a memorable angelic face and one, a young man at the beginning of an illustrious career. We know and love that "Young Ebernezer", we would love to discover the girl.
Much respect to you Sir! May the coming days be as fulfilling to you as you have made them for us.
With respect and best wishes. |

Dear Patrick.
I've always loved the evil Father Christmas in TOO MANY CHRISTMAS TREES [Steed seeing his horrific face on the card he's holding is my favorite scene. Really scares me! Very M.R.James like] and thought it was way too good of an idea to have been limited to one episode.Wish the idea had been explored further in other episodes Evil Father Christmas Cybernauts with superhuman strength perhaps? Make him more formidable? [Since the original Evil Father Christmas turned out to be just a regular chap.]Wishful thinking I know but just had to say it. Merry Christmas! |
